In Puerto Arturo Wildlife Refuge
Thanks to its geographical position and diversity of habitats, the Maya Biosphere Reserve is a territory with great biodiversity, rich in bird species.
In the last count carried out in Laguna Puerto Arturo in 2017-2018, 198 species of birds were registered, corresponding to 44% of the endemic species for the Mayan jungle present in the Maya Biosphere Reserve.
The Puerto Arturo wildlife refuge is an excellent destination for bird watching lovers, as its jungle and freshwater wetlands are home to thousands of resident and migratory birds, including seven endemic species: Black Catbird, Yucatán Poorwill, Rose-throated Tanager, Black-throated Shrike-Tanager, Green-backed Sparrow, Gray-throated Chat, Yucatan Woodpecker.
